Whether you’re an entrepreneur with a business idea, an artist or writer who wants to share their creativity, an existing business owner who just wants to make the most of their online presence, or a cause that needs a platform, WordPress Zoom is a one-day intensive course designed to equip you with the skills to install, launch and run a WordPress website.
Course Outline
WordPress Overview
We take a look at exactly what WordPress is, why it has become the worlds most popular publishing platform, the difference between wordpress.com and wordpress.org, and why WordPress is the ideal platform to use to launch almost any online presence.
Structure
An outline of the key elements that are needed to build a site and how those elements, i.e. hosting, the WordPress installation and your content interact to present your awesomeness to the world.
Getting set up
How to buy hosting and what this means. How to buy a domain name, i.e. yoursite.com and where to get WordPress.
Getting online
How to install WordPress onto your own hosting on your own domain. This module brings together the information delivered in the previous two modules.
The WordPress Dashboard
The WordPress dashboard is where it all happens. We explain what the core elements of the dashboard do before digging deeper into how to use them in the final modules.
The look of your site
The look of your site is all about the theme you choose. We outline what to look for in a theme, what to avoid and demonstrate how to install a theme so you can configure your website to look how you'd like it to look.
The functionality of your site
It's not all about looks! Plugins extend the functionality of your site. In this module we show how to add and configure plugins, explain what to look for in a plugin and tell you straight out what you need to install on your site immediately.
Creating and editing content
Content is king and we explain how to add, edit and manage posts and pages, and indeed go over the difference between posts and pages.
Images
Every picture tells a story and images are easy to use once you know how to handle them. We explain sizing, sourcing, uploading and give tips on where to get free and paid images that come with permission to use them.
And finally
Over to you. An opportunity to practice editing and updating a live site and ask any questions that arise while doing so.
